Derrell
began painting in 1996 and after several years of study decided to turn
his hobby into a second career. His love affair with the coast is
reflected in much of his work. The movement of the water and the
rich vibrant colors created on canvas transports the viewer to the world
he sees - awe inspiring seascapes and majestic landscapes, constantly
transformed by the seasons.
Equally
adept with the palette knife and the brush, he utilizes both to create
his paintings, using bold strong strokes, or, soft, gentle sweeps, as
the scene dictates. Derrell paints mostly in his studio, however,
when possible he prefers to paint en plein air (ourdoors),
capturing the light and shadow of that one special moment in time on
canvas. He believes art is an adventure of unlimited imagination
with endless possibilities.
